In today’s current educational system you have a plethora of choices that are thrown right at your face. You are expected to know what you want to study when you apply for a particular college. Also, you are expected to know what your strengths are as well. I believe the educational system brings out particular talents and gifts that generally go throughout life unnoticed.
A lot of people end up going through the public educational system for nearly two decades and certain talents are noticed, but not capitalized on. The professional educational systems of high learning are bringing new and innovative ways of making each student that comes through their doors –break out of their norm, and find the hidden talents within.
For myself, that was Journalism. Writing was always strength and I could always move and captivate my audiences by the specific words that I chose to use.
In the age of uncertainty, the print journalism world is slightly shifting. It’s not dying, but evolving. The age of where everyone is, and or can be a journalist in real-life experiences, and having a specific eye for what’s news worthy is going to be vital. We, as a society don’t have to count of the news van’s pulling up, and giving news corporations the hottest leads on a subject. Now, with the proper equipment and the good ole’ American work ethic – the sky is endless.
Journalism is no longer something you have to be employed by a media giant, and rack in salaries. It all starts with having a knack for what’s news worthy and portraying it the online media communities. Whether its blogging, or Facebook, twitter, YouTube or your own website the possibility of you sending your news out for the population to read is endless.
I would almost like to think that the evolved digital-media journalist is going to be a lethal weapon of extreme magnitude. If you enjoy taking pictures, chasing down your beat with the help of a police scanner and writing, then this career would be a perfect fit for you.
It allows individuals to be creative and social without working in some fluorescent light office with the rampageous office administration talking all day and giving a sense of pride in your work. Which, in my experiences most of the non-stimulated work environment’s in which I was in, were quite destructive –low productive environments.
So when picking a major, or a career; think Journalism!
